About the cake
It is carved from a rich chocolate cake covered in white sugarpaste/rolled fondant, all in one piece.
The I shaped the icing surface with fingers, snipping the larger sections of fur with small sharp scissors, and the finer fur by slicing with a knife.
The colours were all dusted on. Gradually starting with cream, then gradually building up the brown colours using chestnut, brown, chocolate, nutkin brown, skintone and then finally by adding black.
I couldn't resist addding a set of teeth with white sugarpaste and a cute red tongue (also from sugarpaste) and used some clear piping gel to give the wetness inside the mouth.
Whole thing took about 2 hours from turning the cake out of the tin to putting a ribbon on the board.

Matthew took the head section of the cake to school for the rest of his friends and I can honestly say, I have never been accosted in the playground like that before! Children and teachers were caming to me and saying that they had a piece of the cake and that it was delicious and that it was so lifelike.
Matthews chest inflated with pride! I am so pleased I did it now! 
I had children shouting accross the yard at me how amazing they thought the cake was, that I was the best cake maker in the world (he really puffed up at that one! ) and one boy I had never seen before delightedly shouted at me that the teeth were delicious! 
THIS is the best part of being a cake maker, knowing that the person the cake was for is actually so pleased with it, that they are proud of it!
